Life's Direction- An Unpredictable Journey!
LIFE'S DIRECTION- AN UNPREDICTABLE JOURNEY!
On the morning of my birthday, I landed in my ancesteral country- India. A beautiful country indeed but I quite missed the Dunkin Donuts just around the corner, Disneyland a few minutes away and surprisingly even Kumon. I even left behind one of the core memories- going to my Gymnastics classes every weekend. Although I never did pursue the sport again, its a bittersweet memory.
But of course, we must not forget, that when life closes one door another always opens. When I stepped out of the airport I remember my maternal uncle greeting me with a big smile on his face and a warm hug- a beautiful gesture which gave me hope of my next journey. Of course its been ten years since we landed but I do quite fondly remember some memories of me settling and struggling to fit in.
My handwriting, language and accent definitely made me stand out. I remember one of my teachers rejecting me as a student, just because I couldn't write cursive, couldn't speak Hindi and my accent was 'different'. Of course, I was a kid, I didn't know what she meant but my parents motivated me and taught me everything I needed to know. As a result, I could write perfect cursive within an year- even winning first prize in the third grade and learnt Hindi in two months. That was when I realised, I may be different, but I am not ready to ever give up.
Ironically, I was even criticized for my color. Although I have the natural Indian tan, kids asked why I have an accent, but am not light skinned and that was when I realised that no matter what I do I may not be able to fit in but will definitely do my best- I worked hard, got good grades, was part of the dance team of my school, won medals and made an ever-lasting impression that even after moving to another city, many of the students in my previous school are in contact with me.
But, the story does not end here. I moved, yet again. This time to another city where I did not know anyone but my grandparents , however, now I have friends, know people and even if they comment on my accent or color I remember the fearless little girl who would have never thought her life would become completely different within three days and feel proud of where I am today.
I can confidently say that this is not where my story ends. As I mentioned earlier ,you never know where life takes you, its unexpected, you're not certain but always remember, dear reader, that it's not the circumstance that you're in which decides your fate, it's what you do in that circumstance.
Thankyou for reading an anecdote of my life. But this is not where our journey ends. Stay tuned for more! Follow, share and comment!
